By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. Hebrews 11:3 In John 3:8, Jesus makes a very interesting statement, He said: “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit”. Christ is saying very clearly that conversion is a mystery. How is God able to bring someone from the death of the carnal nature, into the bright light of the spiritual life energized by the very Spirit of God? And so He says, as verily as you and I cannot fully explain the movement of the winds around the Earth, so we cannot explain how conversion takes place under the power of the Spirit of God. Now, this is a spiritual event since we cannot explain it, we have to accept it by faith. There is some evidence for the fact that it does happen because we see that in the changed lives of a converted person or converted people. But it also occurs at the physical level. In Hebrews 11:3 the Bible says,” Through faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God” And since faith is initially a gift from God which grows as we exercise it, it's clear that physical creation cannot be fully understood except by beginning with faith. In the scientific world, people want to begin with understanding first, then they may exercise what they call faith. But the biblical model is: begin with faith because you are dealing with something beyond the possibility of the most elastic imagination and genius. And so spiritually we do not understand, at the physical level we do not understand, for both, we must approach them by faith. What does this have to do with the sabbath? Well, the verse in Hebrews 11:3 – “Through faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God” is a reference to physical creation. In Genesis 1: 3, the Bible says: “And God said let there be light and there was light”. How do you and I understand that the spoken word could produce light? In verse 11, the spoken word produced vegetation. In verse 14, the spoken word produced the heavenly bodies – sun, moon, stars. In verse 20, the spoken word produced fish and birds. In verse 24, the spoken word produced the land animals. How is that possible? We cannot explain! Physical creation as well as spiritual creation which is salvation, cannot be understood with the unaided human mind. it must be energized by faith. Why am I saying this? and what does this have to do with the sabbath? The sabbath is a memorial of creation, and Hebrews 11:3 says “Through faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God”. In other words, through faith, we understand that the product of salvation is the result of God’s work. Jesus said you cannot understand how the wind blows, similarly, you cannot understand how fully conversion works. At every level of the physical and spiritual, we must approach based on faith! This means as you keep the sabbath holy, you are engaging in the act of faith at the very highest level, because the Creator is also the Savior. So, we have a double mystery, creation, and salvation housed in the very same person – Jesus Christ. We must come to him by faith. Sabbath-keeping is an expression of faith at the highest level,–faith in conversion, which is spiritual creation, and faith in the physical creation which is how the Creator made the heaven and the earth. My listening friend, as you keep the sabbath holy, please be conscious of the fact that if you’re genuinely observing the sabbath as God will have you do, you are engaging in an act of faith at the highest level. And so I urge you as your friend, remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, for in so doing you will be doing what alone pleases God and that is expressing faith. God bless you! I really mean that. God bless you as you keep the sabbath holy.
