“Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy”– Exodus 20:8. The Bible says “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy”– Exodus 20:8. Listen to the words again, “REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY”. In other words, we are called upon by God to keep a day holy. What is a day? A day is merely a measurement of time, as is a week or a month or an hour. Essentially, God is calling upon us to preserve the holiness of time, not all time but a certain segment of time that God himself blessed. Keeping the sabbath holy, is keeping time holy. In Genesis 1:31, the Bible says “and God saw everything that He had made and behold it was very good”. God described everything He made in the creation week as very good. After God created and described everything as very good, He rested the seventh day and after He rested, He blessed it and made it holy. Of all that God created or made, we know He made the days, because Genesis 1:5 says the evening and the morning were the first day, and all the way through that chapter you have–– the first day, the second, the third all the way down to the sixth, then we have the sabbath day. God took time and made it holy. Consequently, time must be very important to God having said that I must ask you this and ask myself, how do we manage time? Are we time conscious? Do we habitually waste time or do we view time as a treasure that has to be used very carefully in order that God might be pleased? Time may be described as life. Spending time is spending life. Wasting time is wasting life. And so today, I simply want to draw your attention to the fact that of all God created in the creation week, He set aside time and made time holy. He didn’t set aside or make holy the Sun, the moon, the stars, the fish, the birds, the trees, or any other thing of that kind but time. Therefore, time must be extremely important to God. And since we are made in the image of God, as God views time very seriously, so must we also view time seriously and use it profitably because God will ask for an account of the way we have used our time which on a broader scale skill is our life. May the Lord bless you as you keep the sabbath holy, and as you keep a segment of time holy. As I have told you in the earlier pages, the observance of the sabbath cannot be separated from how we conduct ourselves through the week. Although Sunday through Friday is not regarded as holy, because God did not bless those days, our conduct on those days affects our observance of the sabbath. This therefore means that how we manage time during the week, will affect how we preserve the holiness of sabbath time. Accordingly, time all through the week must be viewed by us as a precious commodity to be handled carefully that God will put His seal of approval on the way we live our lives. As you keep this day holy, my listening friend, you are keeping time a holy. You are not making it holy; you are keeping it holy! Whether you are a CEO of a big company or you are a student in a classroom, God requires you to use your time wisely. May the Lord bless you as you keep the sabbath holy and as you keep holy time holy.
