While often considered irrational, fear is a necessity in order to survive. However, to control fear, one must first understand fear. Webster’s Dictionary describes fear as ‘a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, et cetera, whether the threat is real or imagined’. This is not to be confused with anxiety. It’s believed that we possess only two innate fears: Loud noises and falling, both of which are essential to our well-being. This means that all other fears are learned through the courses of time and experience. But can fear be created? What if there was a way to not only enhance pre-existing fears, but to create new fears? Imagine the power one could wield through a new, as of yet undreamt terror. This demands further study.
